FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Health Screening

Why should I have my health screened?

There are two good reasons for screening: early detection and reassurance.

Health screening can detect the most frequent conditions affecting people over the age of 40. Screening helps you become more aware of your health, and take control over it.

Screening can also provide reassurance and stop you worrying unnecessarily over minor matters.

Why should I be screened at Dr Daniel's Medical Centre?

Again there are two good reasons. First, you will be treated as an individual rather than as a patient - we pride ourselves on our caring, personal approach.

And second, at Dr Daniel's Medical Centre you will receive state-of-the-art health screening from doctors who specialize in preventive medicine.

Does your health screening check everything?

Our screening covers all the main preventable conditions. These are:

  • Diabetes type 2
  • High blood pressure
  • Coronary heart disease
  • Bowel cancer
  • Ovarian cancer
  • Cervical cancer
  • Breast cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Skin cancer
  • Liver function
  • Kidney function
  • Osteoarthritis

Does your health screening include a full body scan?

No, it does not. A whole body scan or PET scan is not a good pre-emptive test. It has not been demonstrated as effective in detecting any particular disease early enough for useful diagnosis.

Do I need a coronary heart disease screen?

The doctor will advise you about this on the day of your first consultation.

I suffer from a particular problem. Should I do a health screening?

Our advice would be not to go for a screening. It would be better for you to make an appointment for a consultation. From that the doctor will advise you on the appropriate tests to take.

Should I fast before my health screening?

Yes, you should fast for at least six hours before your appointment. You can drink water, coffee or tea without milk or sugar.

When will I have my results?

Your results will be sent to you by post within seven days of your appointment. You will be called if any problem arises with your results.

General medicine:

Can I get an appointment on the same day?

Yes, if you call before 10 am.

How long is the waiting time in your consulting room?

Our centre is designed to look after successful and busy people, who cannot afford to waste their time in a waiting room. The maximum waiting time is around 10 minutes. Any patient arriving more than 10 minutes late for her/his appointment will have to rebook it.

Do you provide home visits?

Yes, we do for existing patients of the centre.

Can I be referred to a consultant?

Yes, we can refer you to a consultant in the private sector or on the NHS. In every speciality, we know the best consultants.

I have been unwell for a while. I have already done some tests. Will I need to do them again if I come to see you?

You will need to come with a copy of your test results, and the doctor will decide with you if further tests are needed.

Will my NHS GP be made aware of my consultation at your centre?

On the registration form you will be asked your wishes in regard to this. We do recommend that your NHS GP is sent a report each time you come here. But if, for any personal reasons, you do not wish this to happen, we will of course respect this.

Will I receive a copy of my results?

Yes, with a report when needed.

X-ray, Scan, MRI, Mammograms and Blood Tests

Do you provide these tests?

We can usually refer you for one of these tests on the day of your consultation. All tests will be done in the Harley Street area, within walking distance of our centre.

Can I have the test I want straight away?

No, you will need to see a doctor in our centre to discuss what you want and why. The aim of the consultation will be to define your needs and any potential contra-indications for the test you want.

Will I have a copy of the test results?

Yes, always. This will be given to you during your follow-up appointment.

Travel clinic

Do you provide all the existing vaccines?

Apart from Mumps vaccines, we provide all of them.

Are you a registered Yellow Fever centre?

Yes, we are. Our registration number is UKYFVC0085.

Can you advise me over the phone or by email?

No, as this would be bad practice. As specialists in travel medicine we can advise you properly only if we have full details of your travel plans and your medical history, and this information cannot be obtained without meeting you.

Do you charge a consultation fee on top of the costs of the vaccines?

No, we do not.

A travel clinic in Harley Street. That must be expensive?

Not so. We are competitive with other clinics such as Masda and the British Airways clinic.

Yes. If you call before 10 am, an appointment can always be made on the same day.
