Digital Mammogram

Our centre offers digital mammography, the most up-to-date technology in breast cancer screening.

International standards recommend a baseline mammogram for every woman, starting at the age of 40. Screening mammograms should be obtained at least every two years thereafter.

Digital mammography offers an alternative to traditional mammography. Images of breast tissue are captured on a computer instead of traditional X-ray film. This allows the images to be assessed from different angles, unlike traditional mammograms.

  • Digital mammograms reduce the need for ultrasound.

  • Dense breast tissue can be better visualized.

  • Digital images can be enhanced to look for changes in breast tissue.

  • Digital images can be corrected for underexposure or overexposure, so that repeat mammograms are not needed.

We also offer the classic mammogram, which is less expensive than the digital one. Again, for more information or to make an appointment, please call 020 7935 7501.

MAMMOGRAM INFORMATION

Should I be concerned about breast cancer? If you're a woman, the answer is yes.

  • A mammogram is an X-ray of your breasts using very low, safe doses of radiation.

  • One in nine women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.

  • Breast cancer deaths can be reduced by a third by routine screening in women over 50

  • Mammography is still considered the best tool for early detection of breast cancer.

  • A mammogram can show most breast cancer two to three years before it can be felt.
